Located in beautiful downtown Beaufort, South Carolina, The Emerald was originally the home of BoomBears, an iconic toy store designed by local architect James G. Thomas.  In 2021, after sitting vacant for almost 10 years, the building underwent an extensive renovation which included elevating the entire building, making it the first self-service boutique hotel in Beaufort.  

The Emerald is located within the historic point neighborhood of Downtown Beaufort and is just a short walk from Waterfront Park and the local shopping and dining options of Bay Street.  Unlike other conventional hotels, our unique fully automated check-in process means no front desk allowing for 100% contact free check-in.

Each room at The Emerald has unique attributes and features the utmost luxury finishes with a variety of queen and king accommodation options.  The warm and inviting rooms all feature bathrooms with rain showers, premium quality linens, lush pillow top mattresses, smart TVs and state of the art heating and cooling systems with advanced air purification.  All guest rooms and common areas feature the stunning photography of Beaufort done by local photographer Nick Cann.

This property is a self-service hotel, there is no front desk or on site staff. Rooms are thoroughly cleaned prior to arrival, but daily house keeping is not provided. There is a complementary self-serve Nespresso bar in the lobby, but no breakfast is served on site. For guests staying 4 or more nights we do provide additional house keeping and linen change upon request.
